What are the best drive prices for the Maxtor 80G as a B drive and for the 30G "mirror" backup drives?

Check www.pricewatch.com

Last look $110 for a quantum 30G LCT20 QML30000LD-A from pcstop.com
Last look $238 for a maxtor 80G from upgradeplanet.com

I'm a little paranoid dealing with mail-order places outside my experience, and prefer to buy local or from well-known mailorder places whenever possible.

After seeing a post here on the subject, I dug into Staples web site (www.staples.com) and found their "Price Match Policy", which is pretty clear cut (though buried pretty deep within their site). They'll match any advertised price, Internet or otherwise, as long as the competitor has the item in-stock.

My recommendation: check www.pricewatch.com for the best prices on the item you want, then check to see if Staples carries it (they do carry Maxtor drives) and hit 'em with their own Price Match Policy. If they happen to have it at your local Staples store, you might not even have to wait (or pay) for it to be shipped!

I'll point out that after several dozen such mail-orders, I have only once ever been disappointed...and that was a fraudulent eBay auction. Every single other transaction has ultimately been handled to my satisfaction (I also see to it that I use a credit card that will reimburse me if I am ripped-off online...some card companies make this a selling point).

The Staples in my hometown only carries up to Maxtor's 60G drives. If an 80G is what you're looking for, you may have to have them order one for you, if you choose to go this route. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif Good luck!
