I'm sure this has been posted before but can someone let me know how long it will take me to backup my original Quantum 30 gig hard drive?
Thanks in advance.

It could take up to 6hrs. I started mine before going to bed, and it was done in the morning.

A 13.6G disk takes 1h50m in my case. Note though that it was done on a Linux box without byteswapping either drive, which may have sped things up a bit.

My 30hr Tivo took about 2h 10 min w/ a P3 600 and a win 98se boot disk w/ Dolly. Your mileage may very.

Now if I can just figure out how to pause my work... or fast fwd to the end of the day

I use Disk Pro Lite as mentioned in the FAQ and it usually takes around 1.5 hours on a Celeron 500, 96MB crapmachine I use for hack purposes.

I used dd also and mine took 3 hours with a 1.1g Tbird 256m ram.

Just for the record, my backups of a 30 GB lct15 take 4 hours and 40 minutes on an Intel PIII 667.

Looks like most of us using dd are running in the 4-8 hour range as described in the FAQ.
I find it interesting that Disk Pro Lite (a DOS utility) was able to do it in 1.5 hours! I know nothing about Disk Pro Lite. Does it do full track for track copying? If so it sure seems to be doing a much better job of scheduling the I/O.
