Is my cable box compatible with Tivo ? Will it work ? how do I find out ? Does tivo have a phone support # ? My converter box is a STORM cable converter with the FCC ID # MJZ81550000000001
Thanks !

? Anybody ?

This would be an example of a perfectly valid reason to call customer support. Their phone number is on the TiVo website.

I've been using a Clearmax 2000 cable box with my TiVo without any problems. Before I got it, I tried calling TiVo Customer Support, but they said it was "unsupported" because it's an aftermarket cable box. The company line seems to be "we'll support it if you got it from your cable company" -- and there aren't any cable companies that distribute Clearmax products.

But as I said, it works fine. There's an entry in TiVo's Cable Box Setup menu for Clearmax, and there's one for STORM, too. I'd say the chances are pretty good that it will work, but TiVo CS may not offer much "support" while you're setting it up.

Thank you ! I'll give it a sot and hope for the best ! The local good guys is selling TIVO for $299.00(open box special) Add an extended 3yr warranty and it comes to the normal $399.00 !

That sounds VERY high for a 3-year warranty. Try to negotiate with them. Bet they will come down. Just keep saying you don't want it.

I agree. $100 for a three-year is way too much. Since the warranty essentially costs them nothing unless you use it (and the odds are against you having to), they are asking you to pay full price.

I DID talk them down already ! They only wanted to give me 20% off the original list price for the open box discount & the warranty was originally $120.oo !

Well, I just looked mine up, and I got 3-years extended warranty on my tivo for $80 on a $400-30 hour unit last May.

The $20 difference is less than I thought, but still seems pretty high. Seems to me when I said I didn't want it, the sales person offered me the 3-year warranty for the 2-year (or may 1-year, I don't remember) price.
