TIVO Upgrade
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just tried to upgrade my TIVO. I followed all the step and installed a Maxtor 60MB as the 2nd drive. When I hock up the system I get the green light but nothing else. No remote buttons or anything. This is an old machine and the Quantum drive was locked. I used the DLGCHK program to unlock. Both drives are hooked up and spinning. Any Ideas or do I have to restore the back up.
Thanks

Check the drive jumpers, then check them again.
How did you do the backup? How did you bless the drive?
What have you done to troubleshoot?

Thanks for your response. The jumpers are the ones that came w/the Tivo. The midpoint connection is connected to the new drive. Both have power and are spinning. The Maxtor is set as the slave and I didn't change anything on the original drive. I blessed the drive and got a response of 57GB (for a 60GM drive). Any ideas on what else to check.
Again thanks,

Check that the Tivo is set for Master and not Cable Select.Eventhough it worked without the second drive if it set to cable select and not master you will have problems

Also in 1.3 you have to make sure to set the runideturbo flag to false or it will not boot with a non-quantum drive.
Dan
Edit: Based on sjf's post below you only have to do this if the A drive is replaced with a non-Quantum drive. I was under the impression you had to do this if either drive was non-Quantum

Wait a minute. I'm getting confused.
1) Did you make a backup? (apparently yes)
2) What brand drive was it? (the backup, that is)
3) Are you now running the backup as drive A?
4) If yes, and it was a non-Quantum drive, and running 1.3, did you set runideturbo to false.
5) Also, if running the backup as A, set the jumpers as "Master"
6) Will the new A drive boot without the Maxtor B drive connected?
7) Verify Maxtor B drive jumpered as Slave.
The "jumpers" are tiny shorting blocks used to configure the drive. Sounds like you are refering to the data cable from the Motherboard to the drive(s) as "the jumper".

Thanks for getting back to me. I am using the original drive as the main hard drive. I have removed the new B drove and attempted to boot. I connected a single RF wire from the RF out on the Tivo to my TV and while the green light goes on nothing happens. No Menu, list or if I press record the red light does not go on.
Any ideas,

Sounds like you booted the TiVo after it was married, and then took the hard drive out. You would have to restore your backup on A.

Should I restore A: test it and then put b: in. I originaly put both drives in and got no response at all. I am getting cable to run through the Tivo to the TV but nothing from Tivo.
Thanks
