Refurbished weirdness...

I bought my TiVo on UBID for a nice price. I was a little disappointed that it was a low capacity model (HDR112) but after finding out about this forum I figured I would just upgrade. I also saw that the serial number started with 002, and I read somewhere that these came with 1.2 so I ran the initial setup figuring I would get to 1.3 (or maybe 2.0) and after things had settled I would make an image backup (and put the original in a safe place) and add another disk.
So I got to 1.3 last night and did some playing. I was surprised by a few things.
Even though the box said HDR112, and the sticker on the box said HDR112, and the sticker in the manual said HDR112, when I go to the "recording quality" screen it looks like it is a 30 hour unit (9 hours at "best" and 30 hours at "basic"). Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is the TiVo hallucinating?
I haven't cracked open the box yet to look and see, but I'll do it fairly soon.
I'm also having stuttering problems. Every now and then the video freezes and then catches up, maybe one half second later. When I rewind a bit and play through the same spot, there isn't any stuttering.
Thanks in advance.

I've seen just about every combination of things you can imagine with 14-hour and 30-hour Philips boxes, particularly when it has a "renewed" sticker on the bottom of the cabinet. Interestingly, I've never seen anything other than 20 hours in a 20 hour box.
If it is hallucinating, make sure you don't wake it up http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/wink.gif.

I suppose that it could be an "upgraded" machine. Have you opened it up and counted the drives. It is possible that someone added another 14G drive, but that doesn't seem likely. Who would add only a 14G drive?
You probably just lucked out. I feel for the guy who got the 14hour instead of the 30hour in his refurbished box!

I guess I just got lucky. Maybe when Phillips refurbished the unit they didn't have any 15G drives so put a 30G in instead. I don't think it was upgraded by anyone since it has the little "Void if removed" sticker. It came with a new, sealed package, set of cables as well.
Thanks a bunch.
