Some info that will probably help you US folks as you're upgraded to V2.0.

I have an image of a TiVo that has not been used at all. This came to around 800MB compressed when backed up.

In the UK we have gone through a software upgrade since the image so I wanted to revert to the single drive image and upgrade that.

I restored the backup, and pulled all the inputs from the TiVo so there were no TV signals going in.

I went through guided setup - briefly connecting a signal to get through part of the setup then disconnecting it again.

After guided setup I dialled up again to get the software update.

After this was installed I pulled the plug and backed up again.

Amazingly the size of the image had not changed significantly! Still about 800MB.

If you don't have a TV signal going into your TiVo then TiVo doesn't record - and hence doesn't fill up with MPEG data which doesn't compress.

Hopefully this is of use to those of you upgrading to V2.0.
