backup question not in FAQ

Gonna crack my virgin tonite. I want to back up to an existing drive in my computer. i know that slave/master relationships are important, but does the target have to be empty? Will it just create a file in the root directory? It is a 60mb slave on my system and has plenty of room but also alot of other data.
Will I then be able to burn a CDR from that file?

Wife and kids will be leaving soon so I will be cutting her open (the Tivo not the wife) soon. I am locked and cocked!

If you follow the directions in the FAQ or HOWTO for creating a disk image backup with dbd and dd, it will create the file in the root directory of that partition on your hard drive if the system is FAT or ext2.

Although virgin systems tend to have the smallers backups now, it might be worth waiting to see if mfs_purge comes out soon.

Patience has never been one of my virtues. I am anxious to get this done. My brother is already talking about sending me his 3 Tivo's for the same treatment. But thanks for the feedback.
