What size drive for 14-hour backup?

Hello all,
What size drive do I need to back up one of the 14-hour philips units? I'd like to pick up one of the cheap maxtors that are currently available at bestbuy or comp usa and use it for a back up. I don't really care about stuttering, etc.. I intened to dd the original quantum and then run with the backup only long enough to verify that it works (and I can restore from it if need be). Then I can simply use my original quantum a drive wedded to a nice, big b drive.

A 15GB or larger drive will work.

How about a 14.5? This is the size of the maxtor being offered at comp usa for $50 after rebates. A search of the forum (I actually got one to run this morning -- donation to the tivothon has been made) appears to indicate that this the HDR112 contains a 13.6, so a 14. 5 Maxtor should suffice. There's some conflicting information out there, so I guess that I'm asking for verification that the drive in the 112s are < 14.5.
Thanks...

Check out quantum's website if they have a 13.6GB lct (low cost technology) drive, then that's likely the one in the tivo. Otherwise if there is a 14 or 15 GB drive compare the exact sizes to the maxtor's. Also read the faq, you will have to insert a commandline to enable to run a non quantum Drive on your tivo.
Good luck

The hard drive that came in my 14-hour philips unit was a quantum CX fireball which is 13.6 Gig HD.

The command is not needed in TiVo's running 2.0.1 software.

There were two drives used in the HDR112's - One is the Firball CX and the other is slightly different (bigger I think) in size.
I assume a 14.5GB will work.

Thanks for the info. I picked up one of the 15 GB maxtors from BestBuy during lunch yesterday (for you folks in Raleigh, NC, the best buy on glenwoowd avenue had several left yesterday afternoon). I plan to upgrade this weekend -- I'll let you know how it turns out.

Just bought Maxtor 15GB HDD from CompUSA for $49 ($99 - $50 rebate). The rebate would last good until April 7th. So don't miss out the chance!
