Does 2.0.1 break TiVo for my 1.3 backup?

Two distinct issues actually.
First, I have a working 1.3 backup drive (an original drive) for backup purposes for my two (same model) TiVo's. One of these I will marry a second drive to (I reverted it to 1 drive in preparation of the 2.0.1 rollout as Otto? suggested for backup purposes).
I am only interested in EMERGENCY protection against a hard drive failure. Will this original drive be sufficient backup? In the event I need it I'd rather clone it to a replacement disk and allow the new drive to upgrade to current standard.
I don't wan't to maintain multiple backups for each box if the software does in fact gets keyed to the crypto chip on the system board.
Second, in a similar vein, would having a backup be viewed with disfavor by the folks at TiVo? After all, if you have lifetime subs, which I do, then harddrive failure won't be a TiVo killer. I don't know if they counted on the MTBF value of the hard drive when they calculated the lifetime cost, but if they did, then they might want to increase the cost of a lifetime sub because of users with backups.
Hmmmm... they are, aren't they?

I'm crazy about TiVo.
I tell TiVo what I want and TiVo gets.

The idea of reverting to a 1 drive setup before 2.0.1 was to end up with a 1 drive 2.0.1 backup. If I read this correctly, you reverted to a 1 drive but want to keep your 1.3 drive as a back up? AFAIK, you can keep 1 back up for both machines. Tivo doesn't key the drive to the crypto chip now or at least doesn't pay attention to it and it's highly doubtful they will in the future. The hd in my 30hr unit is the 1 drive back up for my 130hr machine. I don't have to revert to upgrade my back up http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif
I think that the advance of technology will end the useful life of most Tivo's, especially those owned by people that "play under the hood" long before the HD's start failing.
