Funny date/time after upgrade

First I have to say THANK YOU ALL for all the info. This is on hot community and TiVo should embrace it with open arms.

I have had my TiVo from the first day it was sold at Circuit City. So I guess that would be around September '99(?). And ever since I have made everyone I know get one. At the time all they had was the 14hr model and I was promised they will have an upgrade service (I even saved the box). I then found out from TiVo that they no longer upgrade older boxes. So off I went on the hack-it-yourself service plan.

Now, after backing-up and then adding a Maxtor 60GB (which is way more time than I would know what to do with), I plugged it back and when it came back I had a 'New Message' from the recorder saying my service has not updated in 30 days and that all recordings and season passes would be suspended until my next phone call to TiVo. So I made the call right away just to make sure it was all fine.

I then went into the system information screen and looked at the system date and time:
Sunday, Dec 9, 2012 7:19PM

I can only guess that the Bios clock is dead and that unplugging TiVo from a power source for a few hours screwed up the clock. All was back to normal once the daily call was made and now the time is just fine.

I can't believe I have an 82hr system (basic) in my living room. This is so cool.

Again - thanks for all your help guys.

You could be dealing with a dead bios battery. I had some old PC with the same problem. Everytime you powered them on and off, they would forget the date and the IDE drive settings. Since Linux doesn't need IDE bios settings, it could be the same thing.

Try powering it off for a few minute and powering it back up and check the clock then. If so, it may be the bios battery. Sometimes they get fried. I don't know if it can be replaced on the Tivo.

The battery can be replaced, but it's a PITA to get to. There is a bulkhead in the way.

There are instructions on how to replace the battery if you search the forum.
