When oh when will "view upcoming" be added to Showcases and TiVolution Magazine?

I rarely use either part of the service anymore not because it doesn't have decent content, but because one of the most useful features is not avaialable through the program description screens accessed by these two services.

I couldn't find the message doing a search, but thought for certain this was an update that was to happen once 2.0 rolled out to everyone. Obviously we're well beyond that now, what's the hold-up? Now that dual-tuners is out and 4-digit is on the way, will there be some software development time pointed in this direction?

RB, can we expect this sometime soon? Frankly, if I were a showcase sponsor, I'd be upset that I'm missing out on folks learning about my shows and possibly tuning in simply because of a UI issue. The services that the showcases and magazine provide are great, but their value is significantly decreased due to this lack of functionality, which is also inconsistent functionality when compared to how other program information screens work, allowing you to view upcoming episodes to avoid conflicts.

I agree it's inconvenient not having the option available, but looking at it from a sponsorship/revenue point of view - if I was Discovery Channel wanting to advertise upcoming shows in TiVo's Showcases, I certainly wouldn't pay money to have the PBS listings for that show be available also.

I'm trying to think of shows that are on multiple channels here - Hmm! FX channel showing Buffy episodes. FX wouldn't pay to show Buffy episodes if the episodes on UPN also appeared.

You could program TiVo to only show the episodes coming up on that channel but I don't think that's really what we want. We want to see the show and don't really care what channel it's on right? Well, the sponsor does care and Showcases is there for the sponsors not the users.

Rambling ... better sign off.

It sounds like they need "families of channels" so that VUE in the HBO Showcase only shows upcoming episodes on the HBO family of channels, but not the Showtime family of channels.

The other "problem" with this is when showcases show all/several of the different episodes for that program. (E! True Hollywood Stories and Celebrity Profile spring to mind even though there is currently no E! showcase) It would be nice if you selected "View Upcoming Episodes" in that situation that it showed you upcoming broadcasts of that particular episode instead of slogging through 50 mismatched episodes.

I was also under the impression that it was a 2.0 data related feature.

I find it really annoying trying to find other options for things I want to see. Most of the time, if there is a conflict with the one episode they give me to choose from, I just don't record it.

Did you hear that TIVO/Advertisers? If you make me work to record your show, most times I'm not going to record it.

They can still have their "preferred" time/showing the one you are taken to when going to the initial program info screen (ie. a primetime airing vs a late night repeat), that should satisfy them more than folks not looking at their sugg. program highlights at all.

All I'm saying is that I used to use both of these services a lot, before the "view upcoming" feature was available. Now, that feature has become so important in my scheduling (especially because I have a SA box) that I rarely go in to view program highlights from the magazine or showcase sponsors because most of them are cable channels with multiple airings and it's a real pain to try to schedule something directly from the showcase or magazine program info screens.

That's what I remember as well but machines are still being sold with 1.3 on them and they don't upgrade immediately to 2.x.

I think the problem is that they don't want to change the implementation of View Upcoming. If they limited it to only the specified channel, or channel family, then it would function differently in Showcases/TiVolution Mag then it does in the rest of the TiVo interface. If you haven't noticed TiVo is very particular about making features function consistently throughout the interface.

Perhaps the solution would be to rename it to something like "View Future Showings on This Channel". That way it would function like we want, without ruining the consistency of the "View Upcoming" feature.

Dan, I don't want them to necessarily change how View Upcoming works, in fact what I'm asking for is an estimated time frame to make the interface consistent.

In every other upcoming program info screen with the exception of Showcases/Tivolution you have the opportunity to "view upcoming," whether it be upcoming episodes or upcoming airings.

My arguement is that it's this particular lack of consistency in the interface that is making these two services "useless" in my opinion. They both can have great info and alert me to new programs, but I get frustrated when I see something I want, try to record, have a conflict then have to back out of the whole thing and do search by name then view upcoming to find another airing that works. It's a real PITA and the end result is I no longer use these services regularly.

I'm just hoping that Richard sees this and can enlighten us as to whether or not this has totally dropped off the radar, or whether it's still planned for implementation.
