Comcast buying AT&T Broadband

According to MSNBC, COMCAST is buying AT&T Broadband. Microsoft supported the deal due to the fact that AOL TimeWarner was also bidding for the company. I wonder what this means for the AT&TiVo given that MS is pushing UltimateTV???

Nothing really! The AT&TiVos are just SA TiVos with an AT&T logo on the front. So even if they did stop selling them the current users would still be able to use theirs.

People need to realize these new AT&TiVos are NOT bound to AT&T like the DirecTiVo is bound to DirecTV. The AT&TiVos work with any source, just like the current SAs from Philips and Sony.

Well they could always rebrand the graphics to say COMCAST. Knowing Microsoft we could end up with COMCASTiVo presented by UltimateTV. That would be interesting.

The AT&T logo is embossed on the front of the unit, and silk screened onto the remote so changing it to Comcast in the menu wouldn't do much. As for them calling it UltimateTV... That's not going to happen! TiVo owns the software on the box, and there is no way they would let Comcast change it to anything relating to UltimateTV.

The name of the new company is "AT&T Comcast" so no reason to worry about logos or brand names.

I was wondering if the AT&T Tivo was just another stand-alone. Cool - another option.
I'm happy with my Philips though.

Microsoft put 5 billion into the deal. They want access to potential cable and phone customers.

In the last two years, I have gone from being a happy Mediaone customer, to a very unhappy TCI, then @home, then AT&T and now AT&T Comcast customer.

I was forced to change when TCI and Mediaone swapped some local areas to make it easier for them. And after that, it was a rocket ride going downhill.

I went from Mediaone's 4 Mb/sec to AT&T's current 'limited' 1.5 Mb/sec that has never topped 1 Mb/sec since the changeover. :(

Grrrr, grrrr... Don't even get me started about the @home debacle.

Reading this link, I see that sony and phillips are made in the same factory, first info I've seen on the 40 hr. AT &T. Does anyone know who makes the AT&T unit?

Hmm maybe the ridiculous price will stat going down now that someone responsible is running the company
