ATTiVo, where and why

I want to buy a TiVo for a gift, they live in Miami and have ATT digital cable. Can I get them the ATTiVo or do I need to get them a regular SA unit? If I can't get them the ATTiVo should I wait until I can, or is it six of one etc....
I have both SA and DTiVo units, and the DTiVo's blow away the SA units.
What should I do?

Either the AT&T TiVo or a "regular' standalone will work fine with cable.
Personally, I would get the next generation AT&T unit.

Why have I seen releases naming only a few cities as being able to use ATTiVos??????

I read other people reporting that they could order the AT&T Tivos even though they were outside of the test markets.

There is nothing magic about a AT&T Tivo, it's just a newer 40 hour Tivo. So it'll work fine anywhere. Remember AT&T has no standard 'box' some are digital, or not, and some places you don't need a box at all. And even in the same type of box they are all not the same. I had a Motorola digital box, and some people have a Scientific Atlanta.
The reason I'm pointing this out is, it's not like a Dtivo where you have to use Dtv to record, the AT&T Tivo will take any source. Besides AT&T cable is about to become comcast :) So if you can fine a AT&T Tivo grab it!

Members of this forum that are not even AT&T customers have bought them. They have verified that it works with cable, satellite, and OTA sources.
There has also been some speculation that in the future AT&T will install your TiVo for you in the test markets.
You can order it online at http://attbroadband.tivo.com

Ignore this post, answeres came before I posted. Thanks ------- If that is true, will it work in any ATT digital market? And, if both order and operation are not really location limited, then what the F---? Why in the world are they (is it TiVo or ATT or both) saying its available only in limited areas?
I would prefer to buy them the ATTiVo box but I don't want them to be surprised.
Any more info from anyone would be appreciated.
