Can I upgrade this way??

Hi,

I've expanded lot's of Tivo's by adding drives... and I've Tivomad'ed a few Stand alones to use 2 large drives.

Now I'd like to do the same to one of my Dtivos and I'm trying to minimized the impact of the upgrade/transition.

What I mean is I have lots of programming on the current unit that needs to be watched and can't be kept through the upgrade process (it's already had a drive added to it).

So what I'm thinking of doing is using a virgin 2.01 image. Tivomading it onto 2 120 gig drives on another dtivo I have. I'd like to keep it from upgrading to 2.5 by interrupting the call in until I'm ready to pull the drives from my main unit and then swap them in. Thus avoiding the problem of the 2.5 "marrying" the unit. I'm thinking if I stop the call after it's checked the account status than my tivo will keep running (since it's phones home) and I'll be able to let it build up new programming while slowly emptying my other unit. When it's emptied I'd be able to swap them and be done, with all of my season's passes etc. intact and recording. I'd expect to have to run this way for 3-4 weeks since I have lots of stuff to run through on my current unit.

Would it work the way I'm thinking?

Thanks,
Tom
