Once I got past the snag I was having, it was a snap! With Kazymyr's help via e-mail, I was able to figure out which partition I needed to write to using this command: cfdisk /dev/hda
Then the rest of the upgrade took less than an hour and works beautifully! I have a 93-hour Tivo now!
In the next edition of the Hinsdale how-to, someone shoudl definitely toss the cfdisk command above into the footnote for Windows XP users!
Thanks again, Kazymyr!

When and why did you have to the cfdisk command? I'm using Windows XP Pro myself.
What type of Tivo did you have: SA or DirecTivo?

I had a single-drive SA Philips Tivo. I had to run the cfdisk command so I could figure out which hda partition I needed to write to. If you haven't seen it already, booting into Windows XP with your Tivo drives attached is a big no-no because it writes a potentially fatal signature on the drives apparently. So you need to create a FAT32 partition on your Windows XP C:drive using a program like Bootit. Then use the cfdisk command in the Linux bootdisk to figure out which HDA partition to use -- i.e. HDA1, HDA2, HDA3, etc. Hope this helps you.
BTW, I just purchased another hard drive last night from Dell -- GREAT OFFER, IT EXPIRES JAN. 7, LOOK FOR INFO IN POSTS ON THIS BOARD -- and as soon as it gets here, I'm going to upgrade my other Tivo unit. It's that easy.
