I just wanted to thank everyone here for the wealth of information that is available for upgrading all manner of TiVo units. I'd never popped the top on one before, but thanks to this forum, I upgraded TWO stand-alone 14-hour Philips units yesterday, with no problems at all.

I used the 80GB Seagate drives I got from Dell, and I am very pleased with their low noise level. I really can't say that I notice any additional noise coming from the box at all.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to create all the utilities needed to accomplish this, and to those who provided sage advice!

Congratulations!

Did you leave the original drives in? What size are they? How much time do you have at Best/High/Medium/Basic?

Yes, I did leave the original drive in. It was/is 13GB. My new available storage is:

Best = 29 Hours

High = 47 Hours

Medium = 63 Hours

Basic = 106 Hours

Since I place a premium on quality, I plan on leaving the default set at "Best" -- if I ever get to the point where I have 29 hours worth of programs that I haven't watched, I doubt I'll EVER watch them. :)
