How can you tell if you have 2.5.1 or 2.5.1a?
I have a brand new Sony SVR-2000 and I see alot of people are having problem upgrading the A drive in these new units.
My software version, out of box, was 2.5.1-01-1-010, and it still is.
Is this the 'a' version, or not?
Has anyone had any problems upgrading the A drive or B drive in this unit with this version already in?

The 'a' version is for 4 digit channel support.

You will automatically upgrade to 2.5.1a if when in guided setup you connected to a sat box that requires a 4 digit channel input like dd9 stated. It is my belief that unless you have this setup and require 4 digit channels that you will NOT receive the upgrade (which for the time being is a good thing if you want to upgrade your A drive). The real issue on upgrades for these "new" Sony's is the the partition structure. Does your unit have a 40gb drive or a 30gb drive? I'm guessing that if it is very new it is a 40gb drive which means that currently your only option is to add a B drive or like stated below get a previous image. Here is a quote from one of the experts Hinsdale.....
"As pyesnosky stated, Sony has begun shipping new 2.5.1 OS units with the same partition structure as the earlier 2.0.2 refurbs. TiVoMad is unable to function properly with this partition structure in its current form. You can use BlessTiVo to add a B drive or restore another standard 11 partition A drive image in order to furthur upgrade."
If your unit has a 30 gb drive and is not 2.5.1a then your good to go.
Hoped this helped a bit....... keep your eyes tuned to this forum. There are plenty of very, very knowledgeable people who know more than you can imagine about Tivo. I am not one of them yet, but I'm working on it!

Thanks - I will just add a second drive when I get up enough courage and think I can do it safely - still learning. I have only had my tivo for 4 days!
