The manufacturing plant in Mexico was shut down for a month (November) due to quality control issues.

This is the information I received in early December from a senior level customer service rep when trying to get warranty service on my parents 30 hr Philips unit. The individual who gave me this information was not a typical first level customer service representative, but someone with at least some authority and the ability to make things happen, as the chain of events which occurred after contacting this individual confirmed (to me anyway).

I have searched the boards, but found nothing relating to this other than reports of shortages of stock during the holiday season, and back orders on units which had been sent in for repair. As a long time lurker on these boards (since June 2000), I was sure I would eventually see something posted about this on the boards. After reading nothing about this for about a month, I decided to post to see if anyone else had received this info from TiVo, or if the rep was just making excuses for the long backorder of refurbished units.
