Fry's is again selling the WD 120 GB drives for $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate. This deal ends on 1/10/02.

rttrek,

You're killing me! I used to live ten minutes away from a Fry's. Now that I'm in the Pacific NorthWet, the closest Fry's is in Palo Alto! Ugh. I've got withdrawls...

F.O.D.

FYI - your closest would be WILSONVILLE. OR (it's only around 200 miles from your area ;D)

29400 SW Towncenter Loop West
(503) 570-6000
FAX (503) 570-6018

I moved from Fremont to Georgia :(, Dallas is now the closest. I agree wholeheartedly, Fry's withdrawal is very painful :(.

I assume they do not have a web site to order from. I have heard lots of good things about them but have never even been to one.

www.outpost.com bought/merged/whatever with Fry's.

But I don't see the WD 120GB available there... :(

Darn me either

DennisK - here's the link for the 120GB HD at $199 AR. :)

Do the 7200 RPM drives (like this WD 120gb) really add that much more heat? I'd be putting it in a DSR6000 w/ an 80 MB Maxtor that runs at 5400 rpm.

Any thoughts? Can't beat the price, for sure.

Sorry...

No, just advertized in the local papers.

> I have heard lots of good things about them but have never even been to one.

Then you've only heard half the story. :-)

Fry's has a well-deserved reputation for selling bad returns. They don't even check stuff, they just shrink-wrap it and resell it. You have to make sure you don't get any returned box (they are usually labelled as such).

One must know what one is doing to do business with Fry's without getting fried!

rttrek - thanks for the tip, the Fry's/Outpost website does have the rebate offer also, DennisK had the right idea. The rebate expires on 1/10/02, I copied the item below from the Fry's/Outpost website:

$100.00 Rebate! Regularly $299.95 (rebate expires on 01/10/02)
Rebate Requirements:
Rebate valid on purchases made between 1/4/02 and 1/10/02
Rebate valid on purchases made only at Outpost.com
Mail in completed WD rebate form, original WD capacity label from retail packaged hard drive box and copy of dated sales receipt
Must be postmarked within 14 days of purchase
Limit one rebate per household

lol rttrek
maybe it is a good thing I have never done business with them!

Posted by: DennisK

How did I miss that? I see, I followed the links (hard disks, ide, etc) and it's not listed as near as I can tell. But do a search on "Western Digital" and it shows up.

Could be a good deal. I don't like rebates, but that's me.

Good catch!

I was at Best Buy this morning as they put out the new signs on the Seagate 120G 7200rpm drives:

$199 and no rebates.

Enjoy.

Can anyone else confirm this? It would be a decent deal with no rebates and pricewatch showing $206 as the lowest right now for 120gb.

Best Buy & Circuit City have the WD 80gb 7200rpm for $199.99 w/o rebate.

Been waiting for this drive to showup with a rebate again... not for my TiVo but my home PC. I had never ordered from outpost.com and never will again. Their website refused to keep my data correct throughout the checkout process. When I finally thought I had it... I recieved an order number. I then clicked on next to get my receipt and everything was blank except for my shipping address. The order number had even lost 7 of its 8 digits. I called them and sat on hold for 20 minutes. They couldn't find the order number in their system but want me to wait for two hours while their server processes things before resubmitting the order or calling them back. NOPE.
