Hey guys, I have a 20hr. SA unit that I previously backed up onto a spare 20GB drive i had and then added a blessed 60GB drive to make it an 80GB SA unit. I'm thinking about getting a 120GB maxtor to replace these 2 with. Now here is what I really need to know.

1. Can I copy my recordings from the durrent 20GB and 60GB drives and then expand it to cover the full 120GB of the new A drive?

AND

2. Going that route, will I be able to bless another 120GB Maxtor if I should want more space?

Thanks guys, I know you'll have the answers I need

You can transfer your 20+60GB drives including your recordings to the new 120GB drive using MFS Tools, however you will not be able to expand the resulting combined image to utilize the remaining 40gb on the new large drive nor will you be able to bless a B drive. You must create or restore a single drive image in order to expand furthur and you cannot create a single drive divorced image from two drives without giving up your recordings.

There is currently no way to keep your recordings and further upgrade your 2 drive Tivo. Also if your Tivo is running software version 2.5.1 then you are probablly not going to be able to divorce the drives and will lose all of your season passes and thuimbs. So your only option is probablly going to be to restore youre back up image from your original 1 drive Tivo to the 120 GB and then expand.

No you will not be able to simply bless the new drive for it to work. you will need to divorce the drives and then reexpand them with both drives present. However if you are running 2.5.1 at the time you want to add another drive and there is still no new tools or work arounds you will have to start over from your original backup image and again will lose all of your recordings season passes and thumbs.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks guys. This is what I feared. I guess I'll have to invest in a good S-VHS VCR before i do the upgrade. :( I have all 10 episodes of "Band of Brothers" off HBO and I really don't care to loose them. Ahhh well, can't win em all :D
