This from Friday's Washington Post:
Potashner notes that the ReplayTV 4000 lets users send a saved program to no more than 15 people, all of whom must be ReplayTV owners. The recipients can't forward the show to anybody else. (A transfer of a 30-minute show would take at least eight hours on a broadband connection.)

Some questions I have:
Is this accurate or nearly so?
How big is a 30-minute show when stored on TiVo? Same size on ReplayTV?
How long would it take to transfer a 30-minute show at the following speeds:
56K
ISDN
DSL
Cable Modem
T1
T3

a) Yes, mostly. It doesn't use email, but you can send shows to other replay owners.
b) Depends on what quality you store it at. A half hour on Tivo in lowest quality is about 400 meg. In highest quality, it's around 1.6 gig. Replay is about the same.
c) Freakin' forever, at any speed. The slowest part of the connection determines the transfer rate.

Note Tivo has 4 quality levels, while Replays have 3. So there will be some slight differences in size.

The vast majority of people with broadband access have really fast download speeds, and much slower upload speeds.
