Original HD312 upgrade - w/ complications
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Here's the scenario:
Model 312, 2 x 13.x GB HDD. The B HDD is dead, as a doornail, heads clunk - the whole 9 yards. Sometimes the unit will boot, sometimes not... TiVo Tech support to the rescue, and now I'm here. Mr. Hinsdale to the rescue...
So - using DTiVoMAD 4.0 boot CD, MFSTools 1.1 on PriMaster (all HDD's and CD-Rom in the proper IDE locations), manage to back up atleast (that I can tell) 1 of the 2 HDD, to the PriMaster, creating a file 813MB in size [Step 7, option 2 - floppy command structure to use MFS1.1]. It seemed a little big compared to the example of 100-300MB, but I can live with it.
Using 1 x 80GB Maxtor, restored the backup without a hitch... (I actually made 2 restored 80GB drives, 1 to have and hold as an original, and 1 to perform a full system erase (software function of TiVo box.)) [Step 8 w/ MFS1.1]
RESULTS: TiVo boots up, does the "System Failed" command as expected due to the Slave HDD failure on the original 2 drive setup, calls in, does it thing, and LOW-AND-BEHOLD.... We have a perfectly working 14.5 hour (not 30 hour, as was the original 2 drive) system. So.... (HDD1) note: I'm presuming that since I followed the A/B 2 drive backup, the backup process did not even get a glimmer of a file recognition out of the original B HDD.
Shut the system down, hooked up that 2nd restore drive, performed all the same functions - same result. Except... maybe this thing needs a new format... completely - that full system erase (account info, favs, etc., etc.) that takes exactly 1 hour. Got the system back up and running, dialed in, got all the account information, downloaded schedule. Still 14.5 hours. (HDD2)
Question: (and I've been at this for almost 2 days, so forgive me)
1. Can the Restored HDD1 or 2 be expanded to utilize the size of the full HDD (80MB) past the original size of the current restore(which TiVo is assuming to be 13.xMB providing the 14.5 hours of recording time? TiVoMad4.0 perhaps will expand this for me? (directions)
2. Reading Mr. Hinsdale's instructions (and again, forgive me), I'm blind to the process to adding the second blessed B drive into the system. Presuming that I'm stuck with an 80GB drive with 14.5 hours, I'd atleast like to add this 2nd 80GB drive in to give me some decent recording time. [14.5 hours really does suck]
PS: I have no problem with "No" at this point to either question... The unit was hozed to begin with due to the original condition that the B HDD being fried.
In a posting prior by ffujita, a statement was made regarding getting another "backup"... Hmmmm... Since I do not have such a resource, and presuming that once the other obtained backup is restored to the hard drive, and through the TiVo box-provided Reset/Restore, ... essentially ANYTHING is possible to the size of the hard drive as the image is wholey valid. Whereas the most basic image, as would be with no favorites, etc., is it possible to otherwise download that basic image?
Thank you for any input, help, assistance, guidance and instructions.

Yes, TiVoMad will do this for you just follow the directions in Hinsdale's How To (Starting with step 10) you can expand your A drive and add a B drive at the same time.

Same answer as above. If you need another backup image let me know. But If your Tivo boots up you should be fine expanding and blessing another drive using Tivo Mad.

Actually the GSOD "system failed" you received was due to some file corruption which was subsequently repaired by the TiVo OS (did not call in - has built in repair routines). Yes MFS Tools was able to recognize the B drive and actually performed the necessary divorce and created a 14 hour image (this is what you would expect). You will just need to use TiVoMad 3.2 (not DTiVoMad 4) to expand your A drive and Bless your B drive.
