Upgrading from SA to DirectTivo
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Phillips SA Tivo that I put an 80gig HD in a few months ago. I've since decided to upgrade to a Hughes DirecTivo. I would like to take the Hard Drive out of the SA and put it in the DirecTivo. Here's what I am guessing I need to do:
1. Divorce the drives on the SA.
2. Backup the DirecTivo image.
3. ReBless the drive and put it in the DirecTivo.
Am I missing anything, or are there any Gothca's that I need to worry about with this procedure? Should I delete the programs off the SA before divorcing the drives?
Thanks.

No need to delete. Your plan is sound. When you divorce the SA, you arent actually divorcing the drives (source drives are uneffected) - you are creating a divorced single drive image. This image will need to be restored to you original A drive in order to complete the divorce and have a working single drive SA.

When you divorce the drives on your SA, you will lose all of your recordings. The entries for any programs will still be there, but the recordings will be gone.
1. Divorce.
...a. mfstool backup as described in Hinsdale's How-To.
...b. mfstool restore as described ...
...c. Double check jumper on SA "A" drive
2. Backup DTiVo image.
...a. Force daily calls until the DTiVo gets upgraded to 2.5.
...b. mfstool backup as described in Hinsdale's How-To.
...c. BlessTiVo on "B" drive as described ...
...d. Double check jumpers on DTiVo "A" and "B" drives.
3. Install in Hughes DTiVo.
...a. Get PC drive power splitter, the Hughes only has one drive power plug.
...b. Get an IDE data cable with two drive connectors, the Hughes only has one drive connector.
...c. Double check the jumpers on the drives.
...d. Make sure the fan power cable is plugged in.

Thanks guys, now I feel confident doing this. Now I just have to wait for my DirectTV to be installed. :)
