Trouble with installing new A drive

Hi all,
I got a new WD 120GB HD and wanted to replace my Sony S2000 Quantum Fireball 30GB 'A' drive so I could keep the Quantum as a backup. I followed the instructions in the Hinsdale how-to to make a copy of the Quantum onto the WD using the preserve recordings option of dd if=/dev/hdc of=/dev/hdb bs=32k. I put the drive in the TiVo and it worked. I then removed it and tried to run TiVoMad to expand the recording area. It didn't work, but I left the drive in overnight because I was headed to bead. The next day I decided to do away with my file copy and make a backup. I followed the directions again and made a backup of the original drive onto my dos FAT32 drive. I restored it to the large drive and tried to use it in the TiVo. Now it shows "Your recorder is starting up" screen for about 30 seconds, then the green LED goes out and the screen flashes a couple of times then goes back to the same screen. I tried the original drive and it does the same thing. Any ideas what I did wrong and how to fix it? I have OS ver 2.5.
Thanks,
Tim

You might check out this thread http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...highlight=tiger and download the new version of mfs Tools and use that to restore the backup you already made. I had the same problem and to fix it I used the same backup image and just used the new version to restore to my hard driver and It fixed the problem.

I tried the new mfstool, both the mfstools_1_1_static and mfstools_1_1_oldlibc and still the same results. Is there anything I need to do to the drive to clear the old partition information before the restore? Otherwise after a backup it lists up to hdc11 with partition information and hdc12 is blank. Since I haven't been able to get a good restore yet, is there a chance my backup is bad?
I would try for a new backup, but the original HD does the same thing. At some point I must have corrupted it somehow.
Thanks,
Tim
