I received the following message from TiVo today
(with an un-nerving date on it.)

Subject: 2.0.3 Software Update
From: Your friends at TiVo
Date: Tue 9/11

Your Recorder has received the latest update to software
Version TIVO-TCD-RELNAME.

Since 2.0.3 will be shipped on new Recorders, and not
Downloaded to current Recorders, this missage is only a FYI
For the alpha and beta testers, and will not be seen by
customers after release

I see in a TiVo Underground Forum thread a couple of other people got the same message today.

Many people here receive the same message?

I would guess (from the message) that some of the AT&TiVo’s shipped with beta software and we are just now getting release software.

I got it yesterday, too, but it didn't take effect until last night. I'm assuming TiVo rebooted itself last night, since the "last call status" said "pending restart" (or something like that) all day yesterday. The version updated from 2.03-1-2-130 to 2.03-2-2-130 (dang, I wish I had written that stuff down before leaving for work this morning so I could be 100% sure those are the exact version numbers....). The only visible difference I have noticed is that the AT&T Broadband logo has been removed from the bottom-right corner of TiVo Central. If anybody knows of anything else this version changed, I'd love to hear it.

Me too. I'd like to know what was changed.

TiVo doesn't send out ChangeLogs or anything with updates?

That would be a nice addition for us geeky types.

Those upgrade messages are notoriously wrong in some circles. Pay the message no mind, Tivo's messaging mechanism is just whack.

BTW, 2.03-1-2 wasn't beta software. All of Tivo's beta software has a letter in it, like 2.51T3 or something similar. This 2.03 update is probably a minor bugfix without any new features. The fact that it only upgraded the minor version number is an indication that it's just a patch. Tivo's version numbering is pretty well defined. ;)

I thought that thing was the "clean up" version that RB told us about a few weeks ago. No?

I doubt it, since that one is supposed to "bring together" all of the TiVo boxes out there. Since most TiVos are already running a later version than the 2.03 that the AT&T's have, it wouldn't make sense that this would be that release.
