I've gotten much more picky. Have you?

I've noticed now a recent change in my viewing habits. I refuse almost all suggestions, and I rarely stray from my favorite programs. Other shows just don't interest me anymore. Have I become too fussy after the pampering of TiVo?

Sounds like you have earmarked less time for TV as a whole, most likely. I noticed that I only watch for 1.5 hours starting around midnight these days once I got my cable modem and started going to the gym more often.

Yep, if you wanted to spend the time watching more TV, then you would probably watch some of the suggestions. I'm assuming that you don't channel surf or watch live TV rather than watching suggestions, right? I record 3 hours a day of SPs on average, and except for odd situations, I rarely want to watch more than that much TV each day (even with commercial skips cutting those 3 hours way down). So, I don't watch many suggestions at all. However, while I was sick with the flu most of last week, I was grateful to have suggestions to watch while I couldn't do anything but watch TV! Now, when I finally catch up on Buffy reruns, then I'll cut those out of my SPs, and have more "free" time to watch other stuff. ;)

I used to be able to sit down and watch reruns, because I hadn't seen a particular episode, now that doesn't work because I have SPs. I also watch alot more movies, if I didn't have TiVo, I wouldn't have any premium channels. I watch an occasional suggestion, usually I will give it an expiration date and watch it later.

I have gotten so picky that I have suggestions turned off on both my Tivos. Even after I used Teach Tivo, there was always something from a season pass I wanted to watch more than any of the few suggestions it recorded. I've even gone so far as to watch a little of something, get bored with it and start watching something else. When I get around to hacking my units, I'll only get more picky since I'll have more to pick through.
I'm only now learning that benefit of Tivo. It doesn't just insure that you always something to watch. It insures that you always have something that you really want to watch.

I have become MUCH more willing to take a chance on a new show or one I have not watched before because I know that TiVo will catch the ones I know I like.
However, if a show does not capture me within the first 15 - 30 mins then I am VERY willing to stop watching it and delete it because I know my TiVos have something good waiting for me.
This does not mean that I give all TiVos sugestions a chance but I am much more likely to watch a suggestion now than I would have been likely to try something new in the past.

I almost never watch suggestions. I just don't have time after I get done with all my SPs.
I couldn't live without them though. I use them exclusively to show me how much space I have left. Without suggestions, it is impossible to guage how close you are to running out of space.

We had to start pruning some of our SPs of late, simply because there's too much watchable stuff on the tube these days. To watch everything we're interested in would require setting aside entire days every week... so we bid farewell to "Ed", "Dark Angel", "Buffy" on FX, "Iron Chef", "Smallville", and several others.
So I don't know that I've gotten picky... I've just prioritized.

What has amazed me is that I rarely channel surf. I watch less TV - but I watch exactly what I want. I do watch some of the suggestions and that has been a treat.
One thing that hasn't changed is that I still use live TV as a radio of sorts - sometime when I am in my office I will have TechTV on and just let it go while I am working. Though I have even set one of my TiVos to record most of that and I can skip the commercials and the segments I don't like.
My fear is that I will become too impatient with other things. The other day I was driving to work and missed the weather, I went to his the rewind switch - no TiVo radio!!!
Over all, TiVo has helped me prioritize, change viewing habits, and waste less time. Not a bad investment.

Thanks to TiVo, just watched the last Ed. Assume it was a new episode. Haven't watched it in a while. It was a great episode. Just when my interest in it was flagging, Ed steps up again!

I watch a lot less TV since getting TiVo. I know that my favorite shows are available to watch at any time so I don't even turn the TV on as much anymore unless it is to watch a show I recorded.

I rarely watch suggestions but I do keep them on so I can have a rough idea how much room I have left.

I'm not sure picky decribes my viewing habit changes. I have 2 Tivos on the main TV I watch - 1 SA Tivo upgraded to 140 GB and 1 DirecTivo upgraded to 160GB. I have many, many episodes of Star Trek NG, Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek Enterprise, X Files, Providence, and others. I find my syself watching these shows if I don't find anything else interesting on live or in Now Playing.
Wish I could find Star Trek Deep Space Nine somewhere :-)
Oh, one more thing - I have suggestions turned off. I tried them for awhile but was not impressed with what Tivo chose for me.
