I would assume most of the people who post in here are programmers and/or developers of some sort. If you can hold back from sarcastic jokes, reply to this message with your job. I'm curious what you guys do.

I'm a web programmer. (SQL/CFML/TCL/PHP etc...)

I'm an systems engineer for Sun Microsystems (UNIX workstation vendor). When a customer gets pissed off and is having serious troubles they call me in to figure out whats busted if others have failed to find the problem. Keeps things interesting- you never know whats going to hit the fan and someone else gets stuck filtering out the people who were stupid and screwed things up themselves.

I work in Nashua, NH at Compaq's Software Engineering facility on Spit Brook Road. The compiler folks who got acquired by Intel work in a special walled-in section inside the building. There's about 75 of us now.

As far as the ballpark stuff goes, you'll see my footage on ESPN and FSD from time to time. You'll see it on non-televised gamedays, and you can tell it's mine from the cute little "D" in the corner. :) Oh, and you might see me in the behind-the-scenes reel of 8 Mile, once the DVD is released. We'll find out.

I'm the Sr. Systems Engineer for the internet division of an Entertainment company. My specialty's internet. (Routers, servers, topology, WAN, security, clustering, etc.) To think my linux box at home just got hacked the other day! Luckily, even though the guy grabbed my hosts file which had the IP of my tivos, he didn't get into them and cause havoc! He had access to my system for less than 8 hours before I had purged all his trojans off and patched the hole. (Watch out if you run SSH guys!)

Posted by: Saturn

On a related note, I found out the other day that my do-nothing NT box got hacked....about 9 months ago. Someone exploited the famous IIS bug on my machine before it was famous (but still 7mo after MS released a fix). Just copied 4 files to every directory on the box and copyed cmd.exe to root.exe. Pretty harmless. The box has been sitting behind a firewall connecting my TiVo to the Internet for the last 8 months.

Don't want to go too far off topic but I was using an older SSH1 server and there is some serious CRC-32 exploit or buffer overflow that allows arbitrary code to be run as ROOT. Dont' remember the specifics but it's dangerous.

Now, we need a new telnetd for tivo with password capability... Minimal but effective security.

Wow, if my memory serves me correctly about who you are, I remember Winfiles.com (what was the original Windows domain name?) and VServers fondly.
