New Marketing for TiVo

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What TiVo really needs to do is Direct Marketing. Imagine if you could have a small part time bussiness that you could make $300 to $2000 a month working Saturdays and partime loaning TiVos to friends and referals on a try it and see if you like it. Heres how I see it.

1) It is real hard to tell someone how cool TiVo is, but when shown they love them.

2) It takes a little more knowllege that the average person has to hook one up.

3) Most people need to have some one to help them understand how to use a TiVo

4) Even with all the marketing TiVo is doing their growth is based on word of mouth and suggestions from friends.

Set up an independent TiVo Distributerships (not TiVo employees)
a distributer buys at least 3 TiVos for $50 under retail (price of Distributership)
have a system that will enable a free trial period of 2 weeks that can be reset.
The distributer installs a TiVo with a no commitment, just see if you like it. after 2 weeks Distr comes back an TRYS to take it back. When the tivo unit is subed distr receives a $50 check from TiVo.
1,000,000 new subs in a year
4,000,000 2 years

What do you think

ick...

Sounds like a pyramid scheme like Amway. Stuff like that is not about seeling a product. Its about getting people to join up to so others join up.

If TiVo had established a relationship with Amway, they probably could have sold a million subscriptions in the first year.

The economics of the matter might be a different story. Still... would have probably been more fruitful to TiVo than the hardware subsidies that have held them back.

Excellent idea, except these people need to be paid a sizable commission. How about a free TiVo for every 10 sold?

No pyramid here, you make $50 on the sale and $50 from Tivo - $100 a unit. this keeps people from just putting them on ebay with out demoing them. This would be a small home business that you could do in your spare time doing what we are already doing, except we get to make a little money and get to introduce TiVo to a lot of people. TiVos focus would be to support the Distributers with regional training conventions. Yes it might look like an amway at first glance but you dont get paid for other peoples work and you dont get paid untill someone buys your unit. Plus TiVo would save on CS install problems and dumb phone calls because the first line of service is the Distributer that demoed the unit.
