I backed up my A & B drive which mfstool reported a 14 hr image.
I loaded this on my new 80 GB HD and expand with tivoMad3.2.
Look into system properties it reports 67 hrs of recording time.
Is this right?
My 2 drive combined 40gb system reported 36 hrs why doesn't the 80 a least report 72 hrs?
Is there secret space left??

80 GB will give you around 67 hours.

Sounds like you're talking about a standalone unit. Single 80GB drive should give you about 88 basic hours.

This is a Directivo unit. Does that matter?
I understand that you will not have the full 80 hrs of recording time, I just didn't think I would lose 13gb of space for this upgrade. (assumption that 1 gb = 1hr of recording time)

The DirecTiVo is recording (and playing back) the high-quality digital stream coming from the satellite. You don't get any compression artifacts or anything as the Standalones do. The DirecTiVos just get the highest quality signal in a small space.
With a Standalone, you get about 1.2 hours of recording for every GB of storage. But, that's at Basic Quality. On my system, that ratio changes by quality as follows:
- Best: 0.33 hrs/GB
- High: 0.54 hrs/GB
- Medium: 0.72 hrs/GB
- Basic: 1.21 hrs/GB
On your system, you get about 0.875 hrs/GB no matter what (well, it apparently changes based on the amount of movement in the show). So, you get Best quality in a storage space someplace between our Medium and Basic settings (and no one uses Basic).

I thought you need TiVoMad 4 for DirecTiVo.
