How do multi-tivo owners tell the difference between their remotes?

I feel pretty silly asking this, but what the h*ll - its not like this is the only frivolous topic!
I had bought an 'extra' DTivo since they were so cheap and I thought it was going to go to a relative. Having thought better of it, I kept it myself. ;)
I've pretty much run the primary out of space, so yesterday I added another drive to new tivo and started using it. Unfortunately, since they're both DSR6000's, I'm having a little problem telling which remote is which.
At first I went by weight - I have a new remote and a flawed remote, and the flawed one seems slightly heavier. Unfortunately, I sometimes grab the wrong one without realizing.
Last night I got a bit less stupid and realized I could just look at the Chan button to see if Page is there. Better solution imao, but still feels odd. I've thought of labeling one remote with a taped label, but that seems ugly.
What do other multi-tivo owners do, or am I the only idiot with this problem? :}

Just buy one of these new TiVo remotes. It has a switch on it so that you can use one remote to control both TiVos.
It's pretty cool. :)

Wellll .... when I added the first DTiVo to my Standalone, it was easy. The DTiVo has the DirecTV logo on the bottom of the remote, and the SA doesn't. Now that I have two DTiVos, well if it wasn't for my Sima switcher with the remote control, I would have serious problems. I'm ordering the new 34 button remote though so that I just manually switch between DTiVo 1 and DTiVo 2.

OK then go with the low-tech solution and put a spot of red nail polish on one of the remotes.

Before I bought my pronto, I had 4 peanut remotes on the coffee table, each with a different color foil star. There were matching foil stars on each TiVo, too.

I've got one of the clear red remotes from a promotion. Switched the red battery cover with my second remote.
Haven't gotten lazy/tired of it enough yet to spring for a new dual TiVo remote since I still have to change inputs on the AV switcher. And I'm too cheap to buy a fancy programmable remote that will do it all.

Now we know why you don't MIND the star in the menu...you're USED to it! :) :) :D

I use the MX-500 now but before I got it I used one TiVo remote and manually changed the code each time. I found this worked better for me than marking the remotes.

Low tech approach. I put a rubber band around one remote. When it wears out I will put another rubber band there.

A number on a punched out circle of paper taped to the center of the arrow buttons, while suggesting TiVo provide stickers.
Before that, white-out on one of the channel buttons.
After both, using the MX-500 programmable remote. Lately I'm gravitating toward the 34-button replacement remote w/switch.

I wish the new 34 button remotes worked with Sony SAT-T60. I currently have 4 remotes (two for each room). One of the remotes in the bedroom has a rough feeling on the TiVo guy so I feel for it when choosing the remote I need. I have the Jim West solution (rubber band) on one of the remotes in the den.

Made a couple of 1" tall labels with my Brother P-Touch PT-2300. That and I bought a pair of the 34 button remotes. :D

At first, I just put some duct tape on the back of one, but that wasn't very elegant. I work in the paint industry, and had a friend from Sherwin Williams paint one remote Sony Wega Silver (yes, the Wega TV's are all painted, that's not silver plastic.) The other one was a custom job: a friend formulated a clear lacquer with holographic and gold flake pigments. The holographic pigment costs $200/lb, so don't expect to see that commercially available. (Although I could get him to make one or two in exchange for one or two lifetime subs. Interested, Richard? )

And what's wrong with just grabing one and see if it works, if not grab another till the channel changes!! :) It's what I do, but thanks now I'm going to want to buy one of those remotes with a switch!!

One clear, one black. In the dark I hold it up to my eyes to see if I can see TV through it. No, really. OK, I'm odd.

urc-8080 or rs-1994 universals...using the jp1 interface you can program them to control up to 8 tivos for the urc, or 6 for rs. or control however many tivos you have along with all your other devices like i do. using ebay either remote should cost around $20.

I have 3 TiVos. I use one of the new controllers, one of the old. Before I got the new controller, I had three of them at my side. In the dark, I couldn't use the "red-dot" method, So I went low tech. Skinny rubber bands. 0,1,2 to tell them apart. There are spots on the control where the rubber band do not get in the way.

I have a labeling machine and just put a 1, 2 or 3 on the bottom of the remote.

The Tivo store sells (or at least did) a blue and purple remote. So I have a blue, purple, and black remote.

Easy. One's a Sony, the other's a Philips! :D

Wow. That's exactly what the guy above me said!

Oh you guys....
I just hit the sequence on the remote that changes it from operating one D-TiVo to the other TiVo. It involves pushing three buttons....but, until TiVo comes out with a power user remote this seems to work fine for me.

Just grabbing for a remote is a challange for me...
:D

Why do you need that many remotes for.
What are they to.

Hmmm.... let's see:
Marantz receiver AV-560
Velodyne Sub Woofer (Yes, my sub woofer has a remote)
Pioneer CD/DVD/Laserdisc player DVL-909
Pioneer CD/Laserdisc player CLD-D701
Pioneer CD multi-disc player
CDI player
Mitsubishi S-VHS VCR U780
Mitsubishi S-VHS VCR U795
Panasonic Multi-format VCR AG-W1
Daewoo VCR
Sony SAT-B2 satellite receiver
Toshiba DST-3000 HD satellite receiver
Toshiba TP61H95 projection TV
Philips TV
Daewoo TV
Panisonic TV
Sharp TV
Sharp TV
Goldstar TV
Karaoke Player
7 various TiVo remotes
5 various X-10 remotes
Now, the real humor is that those are just the ones laying about. I have quite a few more (wife's treadmill with TV has a remote, I have a couple old VCR's that are not being used that have remotes, a couple more TVs in the attic that have remotes, the camcorder has a remote, some of the kitchen appliances have remotes - no kidding, my digital camera has a remote, and I have a bunch of 'old' A/V gear in the attic that I don't even remember which have remotes or not...). I think I could round up another 20 or so remotes without too much trouble...
