Has anyone used any form of cloning software to upgrade a TiVo, such as Drive Image or Ghost?

They don't work. Read the Hinsdale how to and get the boot cd.

The latest ghost will work actually. You just have to put it in raw sector mode. Of course, the command line is even more complicated than dd's. And you end up with a backup the size of the drive if it's non-virgin.
