I just read: http://tivo.samba.org/index.cgi?req...e=faq03.006.htp

It looks like I install an IDE drive in my mac, run the disk blesser, then insert that drive in the tivo. Is it that simple?

Will I be doomed without a backup? Could I use it if I had it, without a PC?

I'll be using a B&W with internal Ultra2 LVD SCSI, So there's only one IDE chain. The IDE ribbon coming from the CD drive has a connector in the middle for a zip drive. Is this what I'll use? I don't think the Maxtor drive will fit in the zip bay, so should I just unplug the CD drive's IDE cable and use that?

I know just enough to be dangerous, so any suggestions or warnings from in the know folks are appreciated.

Thanks, Jim Babb

It is that simple.

You will not have a backup.

You can backup and restore with some tools on the Mac - Hard Disk Toolkit 4, using dd in MacOS X, etc.

The very quick and easy MFStool backup requires a PC at this time.

*** PLEASE BE CAREFUL! ***

The Revision 1 Blue & Whites had an IDE controller problem.... They really _really_ don't like slave disks on the IDE chains!

It introduces (subtle) drive corruption.... (It bit me in the backside once... :-)

I'd recommend unplugging the CD drive, setting the Tivo drive as a Master, then inserting it.

PLEASE don't connect the hard disk where the Zip drive should be... Bad Things (tm) may happen. :-)

If you want more details, please feel free to email me:

Best of luck!
