Got My Series2 Today

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got my Series2 today, and wow looks like an AT&T (GoFigure)

One big change, Western Digital Drive?

Yes, it's the "Home Entertainment Hard Drive" from western, 60GB
And I'm not kidding about the name, thats really the model!

Once again no warranty sticker on the back

Software version 2.0.3 (Just like my AT&T upgraded to last week)

You will need the IDE Cable and "Y" adapter just like the AT&T, I'm going to play with it tomorrow. And NO bracket required.

These things are fresh from Mexico, the drive has a manufacture date of Jan 15, 2002.

It's kinda sad to see they did not keep the front panel controls like the AT&T, and the unit looks kinda cheesy, you can see inside thru the IR glass, I think the old Philips units had some style to them...

Kinda like PC processors, when you first held a Pentium 2 processor in your hand, the sheer mass of it made you feel like you had something cool, whereas the P4 looks more like a postage stamp and you say "I paid $500 for this?"

Here are some quick pictures of the inside...

I will let you know how my upgrade went tomorrow!

PS: Did everyone get their window stickers from Tivo?...LOL

Thanks,

Tivo Joe

Some one posted an artical about the WD drives in the Series 2. They are suposed to be nice a quiet. The artical was on the WD site.

It is so nice ot TiVo to include a second HD bracket. They would save money if they did not put them in. They must be providing them to make our upgrades easier and cheaper. Thanks ToVO!!!

You know it's funny because I have let it run all night and it has kinda a houl to it, If I put the cover back on I more than likely would not even notice, the PS is running rather warm could be just because the fan is not blowing correctly without it's lid.

BTW The menus (Color and Layout) are identical to the AT&T, just no AT&T Logo.

Any chance you could post a pic of the back of the thing? I'd like to see what sort of jacks/ports/etc are on the series2.

Thanks!

hey joe,

exactly how quiet is it?

I was thinking of getting one, but I am very picky about the sound. I even replaced an upgraded dual 40 gig SA with a single 80 gig drive just to quiet it down. A maxtor 80 gig with amset /quiet is REALLY quiet!

I got mine yesterday and let me do a little advertizement here.
I just ordered Tivo Joes Upgrade for Series 2. It's on his web site, but claims to not be shipping until the 13th.

Waiting for a reply back on what UPS overnight would cost extra. I really want to do the upgrade on Presidents day weekend.

Tivo Joe is the first I have seen to offer the Series 2 Upgrades yet!!! Thanks Joe for getting on the bandwagon so fast.

Well the access is real quiet, just the drive was giving out a houl, I wish I could explain the noise, kinda like a mild fan belt on a car going out, however it stopped now.

I am still working on the doc's guys, I will get them up as soon as I can
