Disable Parental Controls?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I lost my remote and I have parental controls enabled. However, there's no way for me to enter the password using the front of the unit. Is there some hack to remove the parental controls? Or can I program the Up/Down buttons to insert numbers in the boxes so I could enter the code?

Right now I can't watch anything because it's asking for my password. :-( Any suggestions? I have the Philips DSR6000... TIA

ask to borrow a tivo remote from one of your friends that has a tivo? Then you could use it to type in your code.

Nope...I'm out in the country and nobody else around here has one. I've also already tried calling Walmart and Radio Shack and they don't have replacement remotes that I could just go out and buy. Best Buy and Circuit City are about two hours away...

I have a Sony TV..I wonder if there's a way to program that to control the Tivo (even if it's a Philips). The FAQ on Tivo's website just said RTFM.

You could use the TivoWeb remote.... If you don't have tivoweb but have bash access, it can be done with tivosh. (see
webremote.itcl from tivoweb)

You can also buy remotes online from http://store.tivo.com.

Radio Shack 15-2103 (US$29.99) remote has TiVo codes built into it.

I would think using the factory reset option would restore the unit to the way you got it. Of course all your programming will be erased.
