Phillips 14-hour vs 20-hour

Do these units use the same motherboard? I have a damaged modem on my upgraded 20-hour unit. I have read in the forums that the fix is $99+shipping. Instead, I purchased a demo 14-hour unit at best buy for $100. I figured I would use the motherboard in the 14-hour unit as a replacement. I am just concerned that I will be using an older rev of the design compared to the motherboard in my 20-hour unit. Does anyone have any knowledge of this. I don't want to open the 14-unit and void the warranty at this point without knowing if I am going to keep the unit.

thanks...

There are no differences between motherboards of a HDR112 and HDR212. There obviously have been some changes as I presume rev levels of the chips used change (there were rumors of variations on modem chipsets used).

My 1999 unit has been VERY reliable, the second (newer) one I bought had to be replaced.

If you send it in you do not know what you will get for as far as TiVo serivce is concerned all the HDR motherboards are identical.

It seems to me that you could just swap the drives in the units, and then you'd have a 20 hour drive attached to the 14hr hardware. A lot less trouble than swapping motherboards. All you need is a couple of torx(sp?) bits to deal with the mounts.

You could even "bless" the 20 hour drive and add it's capacity to the 14 hour's.

My 14hrs didn't lock drives. My 20hr does. An original 14hr drive worked in my 20hr once, got locked, then could not be unlocked by the 20hr. Whether swapping drives or motherboards, this is a concern.

The serial number is on the motherboard, not the drive, so you'll have to cancel one service and start another. $99+shipping may be worth it if you want to retain a Lifetime Service.
