Upgrading 2 DTiVo's (1 Philips, 1 Sony) - can I do this ?

I ordered 2 of those $100 Maxtor 80g's from CompUSA and will soon upgrade both my DTiVo's (more storage for The Simpsons :D )
1) If I start the process by copying the Sony A drive, can I use that image to test and format both drives then drop one in the Sony and the other in the Philips ? Will the Sony A drive have any machine-specific information on it that might cause problems ?
-OR-
2) Should I use the Sony A drive for the Sony upgrade, then repeat the entire process using the Philips A drive for the Philips upgrade ?
3) If idea #1 will work, is there anything special I need to do?

I know this may have been covered before but I couldn't come up with a specific enough search to find it.
I can hardly wait for my new drives to get here :D

You'll need to do individual backups/restores for each machine. If they were the same brand (I'm not sure about model within brand), you could have done one backup and restored to the other. But, with different brands, you can't.
