Instructions for restoring a .gz backup?

Hi Folks,

Thanks to the good will of others, I've been able to dowload and build a CD containing a 1.3 backup image. This image is basically a gzip'd file - about 350megs in size.

My question is, what should I use to splat this .gzip'ed image back onto my new drive? Should I gunzip it, then use dd? If so, what command line options for dd?

I've created a Kazymyr boot cd, so I really just need to know how to restore using this gzip'd backup. It's unclear how the backup was created...

Thanks to all who pitched in to help with this. I hope I can return the favor to others once I've figured this all out!

I believe the old Hack FAQ still has the correct procedure for restoring...

something along hte lines of:

cat tivodisk_* | gzip -d | dd if=- of=/dev/hdx bs=32k
