hi,
I'm getting ready to order a direct tivo in the next day or 2,
i currently have a SA sony that I upgraded with a 80 gig drive and this weekend Im adding a second 80 and network card,so far all the upgrading has been a snap(love the guide),my next item is
to buy a direct tivo, and I wonder are any of the units easier
than others to upgrade,or do any of them have any problems?
I'm looking at either the hughes or pioneer there is only a 10.00
difference in price.
thanks

Ummmm... there is no Pioneer DirecTivo. The only makers are Sony, Philips, and Hughes. The Philips and Hughes are the ones that are around $100 right now, so I'm assuming that's what you mean. If you're looking for the absolute easiest upgrade, go for the Philips, as long as you can make sure it's a newer single-drive model. With the Hughes, you have to buy a few dollars of extra hardware, namely an adapter to split the power supply and a dual IDE cable.

thanks i am leaning twards the philps, one more question, are the directtivos also limited to 120 megs per hd? like my SA?

Yup, well it's like 137gigs I think. Since it's an IDE issue all Tivos and computers for that matter are going to have this issue. At least till there is a change to how the IDE device works! :)
