TV guide

I hate the tv guide.
1. Background of live TV, frequently interferes with reading it.
2. Cannot determine what shows are underway and what shows, movies , are just beginning, without scrolling thru 75 premium stations and their banners. I want a way, like the cable tv guide, that lets me know what is starting at a certain time.
3. Also, if it is 8:45, I cannot move the guide to 9:00 to decide what I may want to watch at 9.
Tivo is not entirely about recording-live tv needs some assistance. Any suggestions or similar feelings?

1> Pause LiveTV... I usually have no probelms with this, almost never use the guide anymore anyway...

2> I agre that you cannot see when the current shows started just by looking at the display. This is true...

3> You can move the guid up by 30 minute increments by pressing the FFWD button.
