Serial data stream to satellite receiver

Hi!

I'm trying to find out if anyone has determined what serial data Tivo sends out to the DirecTV receiver to change channels.

Just by snooping on the serial port (settings 9600,8N1) with my PC and changing channels, I always see the same data pattern, independent of what channel I (try to) change to.

Is the Tivo expecting something back from the DirecTV box? Are my settings wrong? Anyone else try this?

thanks!
Mike

Have you seen this and this?

TiVo sends power on once, then channel change twice. I don't think it looks for any response from the DirecTV receiver.

Tivo does expect a response to all commands, if it does not receive a response it does not send the channel change command. ReplayTV on the other hand does not expect a response.

You can check out this page for more details on the commands and the expected repsonse:

Thanks for the responses. The tables in the links you provided are exactly what I was looking for.

From what I can see, I receive the power on command (0xFA, 0x02) and then there is a pause, and then other data is sent, none of which can be correctly intrepreted into a command string.

I don't have all of the data in front of me, otherwise I'd post it...

Let me know, I have a program I wrote in VB 6 that interprets the Directv channel changes (as well as other things). I can provide you the source code if it helps.

I would like the source code.

I love this stuff. I am good at Interface design. I could make it "prettier" and include some new functionality.

Maybe add a tab style and use it for TivoTitle and other scripts.

if so inclined email it to me at tivo@gormly.com

I post any imporvements and keep it open source.
