If I upgraded ... should I buy the lifetime?

I upgraded my Sony SVR-2000 a few months ago, adding
a 80 gig Maxtor Drive. Everything works fine. However,
now that Tivo is raising their monthly rate and has this
$200 lifetime offer until April, I was wondering whether
I should purchase the lifetime deal.
My concern is that if there is some hardware failure with
the Sony, and I am not able to fix it, will I be able to
find someone who does such repairs (I am assuming that
the manufacturer will not deal with an upgraded Tivo).
Are there any shops out there who offer Tivo hardware
repair?
Thanks for your help.

funny, i was toying with the same question. 200$ breaks even in about 15months, and i was wondering whether my newly upgraded tivos would last that long... having one of the GSOD on me yesterday didn't help to convince me... but then again, i was able to restore the backup of the drive i had, and had it up and running in about 1/2 hour (lost all my recordings though :() I guess if you have a backup of your drive, and think that you'll enjoy the Tivo service > 15months, it's a worthwhile switch.

Yes, I will probably purchase it.
I think if there is a disk failure I can correct it. My only concern is if something on the motherboard fails. That is probably not a likely event. But, it would be nice to be able to have it
repaired if necessary.

I think it's a good idea to protect the modem with a wireless modem jack, about $30 from eBay.
