IR Problem, can I swap Disks or IR's?

I have a problem with my 30 hr Phillips Tivo, hacked to 100 hrs (added drive B). It has worked great for over 2 years but I think the IR receiver is bad and I may have to send it in for repairs.

I have another 20hr Phillips Tivo that I have never taken out of the box. If it turns out that the IR is bad, I guess I have 3 choices.

(1) Return the Tivo to it's original disk configuration and send out for repairs. (Cost ?)

(2) Move the disks from the IR problem Tivo to the new Tivo and pay for another lifetime sub.

(3) Change IR assemblies if that's even possible?

I hope I'm making sense? Have I missed anything or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

You can just swap the IR assembly (assuming it is the actual receiver/transmitter in the 'eye', not something on the MotherBoard).

I have not done it, but there are posts. I think you may need to pull the front 'eye' panel off in addition to the regular main cover.

If you want the other TiVo to work, you may be able to find someones dead TiVo on the board and buy that part - or see Electriclegs.

Adent,

Would it be easier to swap the disks on the IR problem Tivo with my never opened 20hr and then send the other unit for repair?

I'm thinking this would allow me to still have my Tivo functionality and I could go on the monthly plan until the other Tivo is repaired.
