Hello,
i currently have a Philips 20hr tivo (SA)... And for my pc i currently use a 120GB drive. I recently bought a 160GB drive.. Both Maxtors. Now that i got my new 160GB i want to use my 120GB drive for my tivo. Can i still use the drive even though the drive has been in use already by windows for storing etc? And If so would i just have to do a format inorder to use it?
What i planned on doing was backing up my A Drive and using this 120gb drive as my new A drive. Being on the safe side here.

Yes, you can use it. No, you don't have to format it first - just follow the upgrade instructions as if it were a new disk.

Small problem occured. After i downloaded the mfstools i unzipped and took out the one file "mfstool" and i made to copys one to the C: my primary drive.. Then i did another copy to the C:windows directory aswell... also when i made the tivo boot floppy i tryed to explore the A:drive but i got the msg this drive is not formatted would you like to format it? i said no of course is this normal? also
also when i booted it deteced both drives find with correct size so i type in the command: mkdir /mnt/dos (worked Fine)
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos (Not found)
/mnt/dos/mfstool backup -6 -s -o /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
then i get "mfstool" not found. could it be possible that maybe the image didnt get copied correctly to the floppy? both drives are set to master Primary-Windows Secondary Master-Tivo A

Sounds good so far, but you only need to copy it to the root directory. You didn't need to copy it into the Windows directory as well.

Yes, this is normal. The boot floppy is a linux disk, not a DOS/Windows disk, so Windows doesn't recognise it as a properly formatted disk.

This means the mount command didn't work for some reason. What version of Windows are you running? And more importantly, what format is the drive in (FAT, NTFS, FAT32, etc.)? Two possible explanations are that your C: drive isn't where you think it is (i.e. Primary Master) or you mis-spelled something.

/mnt/dos/mfstool backup -6 -s -mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
then i get "mfstool" not found.
This is because the mount command is failing. Fix that and this problem will go away.
