Just wondering if there was anyone in eastern mass that could help me upgrade my phillips dtivo?

That's a pretty big area, geographically. Care to narrow it down a bit? How much help are you looking for?

I was looking for someone living around the boston area in case I totaly screw up beyond belief. I live northeast of boston. I have a general understanding of computers. I have installed hd's before as well as well as other components but I have never dealt with anything linux based and Its a bit intimidating.

If you can install an IDE hard disk, you can upgrade a TiVo. You don't have to understand Linux other than to keep in mind that it's not Windows (for example, commands are case-sensitive). The Hinsdale How-To is very detailed, and if you follow the instructions properly, you'll be fine. Read the instructions over twice before starting.

DO NOT SKIP THE STEP ABOUT MAKING AND TESTING A BACKUP. If you skip this, and you have a problem, life will be much more difficult for you. It takes less than 30 minutes to do this - well worth it (especially as it gives you added insurance for the future.)

A common point of error is incorrectly setting the disk jumpers. Be extra careful when you do this.
