Backup Question

I recently had, according to ATT, 2 Tivos go back to the factory because of defective hard drives. Although I was very impressed with their replacement time (2 days), I'm wondering if I should make a backup "just in case".... My question is, Where do I back up to? Should I make a folder on my windows PC for it? Should I purchase another Hard drive? If I planned on upgrading in the future could the backup of the A drive go onto the new B drive?
Heck, thats more than 1 question. If all I want to do at this time is make a backup of my A drive onto my PC, what is the most foolproof method?
Thank you in advance
Jim

The simplest method is to backup to a FAT or FAT32 partition on your PC's hard drive. There's no longer any point in buying a second hard drive. The Hinsdale How-to gives all the details
