Mrs. Demandred here. The modem on our 20 hour TiVo went out, so we decided to follow the instructions at http://pvrhack.sonnik.com/tivo/howto/tivo-dsl.htm.
We got through the part where we cracked the TiVo to get the HDD out, backed up the software, made the update to allow us to connect via telnet, then put the thing back together. We were able to get to bash, then tivosh, then started the line item updates listed under section 2.7. However, we got the following error:
% cat > /etc/ppp-options.cu3
called "cat" with too many arguments
What the heck does that mean?? What are we doing wrong here? We even went so far as to cut and paste the cat > line to make sure we weren't making any typos.

The "%" is the key. This means you are in a tivosh shell. You need to exit the tivosh (type exit and hit return) to get to the bash prompt (which is a pound sign); the "cat" command must be issued from there.

The % would have been the key if I knew what I was doing. Fortunately that's where you come in!
Thanks, it worked! You rock my world!
