Anyone working on Series2 USB?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

UPS says my AT&T Tivo is getting delivered today...(*cough* I think I might be getting sick and have to leave work *cough*) I'm totally stoked to get under the hood of this baby...
I can handle the Drive B only HD upgrade, it looks pretty straightforward (thanks to all the hard work of those who blazed that path).
But, I didn't realize until looking at the previous threads that there was no ISA bridge slot or current support for hacking USB connectivity on the nextgen boxen.
I'd be happy to help work on this if there's an effort already underway if anyone would like to point me towards the right folks.
Or, if anyone knows if Tivo plans to turn on USB support soon and it's just a matter of waiting (say, 60-90 days tops) I'd be okay with that, too.

The next version of the software (3.0) supposedly will have "unsupported" USB ethernet drivers.
As to when that will be released... Some say April or May. However, the strongest statement for release I believe was "Sometime this year". :)

one would think it would come out before the series 2 units show up at bestbuy. (in the month of May?)
you could just hear the conversation:
"Yes Ma'm! This is the New Tivo!!!!! No, it's not as good as the old ones, but thats because of the software. But it'll be better some day... I promise!!"
;)

I am straining to hear that "conversation".
It assumes someone at Best Buy would know that there was some feature in Series 1 that is not in Series 2.
It assumes they would care.
It assumes they would agree with your assessment of Series 1 being better.
I know you put up a smiley at the end, but the whole point was really meant to be a joke, right?

Yes, sarcasm was intended and my post above has been edited to include my standard sarcasm disclaimer.

I'm starting out with a series 2; what am I missing from the original?

A few inches around the edges... :)
Seriously, the software is currently 2.0.something on the series2 units, as opposed to 2.5.something on the standalones. There will be no 2.5.something release for series2, they have to wait for 3.0.

Arrrrggggh! You *ARE* kidding. Oh, MY GOD!!! This is no joke. I'm running a stand alone; the lightning hit my modem; I just forked out $400+ and I'm getting a downgrade. Oh, please, someone end my nightmare (whimper) please (whimper).....
