Parental Control

We are seeing a bit of odd behavior on the parental control front and wondered if anyone else had found the following.

TiVo connected to ITVDigital, parental control activated to lock channels 56-58,91,92 to stop the kids looking at the free-view on the adult channels.

Autolock set 'on'

All other content allowed, all movies allowed.

Now when we go to record '18' classification films we are asked for the parental PIN - why?

Also a '15' classification film which TiVo recorded the other day demands a the PC PIN before it will play....

We have tried changed all the PC settings then putting them back and running a restart - but no change.

We have reported this to TiVo support.

Anyone else finding the same or able to explain where we are going wrong as the upgrade manual is not much help here:confused:

Can you provide me a programme name, time, channel as an example of this problem? I believe I have an answer for you, but I need to look at an example programme first.

Yes the programs in question were the 18 cert film 'Chopper' and one other (Dude wheres my Car?).

However we think we have identified the problem/bug last night:

When we first put on parental control we activated it against all 18/sexual content, during the day or so this was active we set the two films above to record.

The day after we moved the parental control settings to block the 5 sex channels so the freeviews would be blocked, as we decided this was a better solution.

When DWMC? recorded we noticed that you needed to enter the PIN to watch it, even though that level of PC control was off, fair enough as it had been recorded when the setting was on. Figuring that this may affect the forthcoming showing of Chopper I deleted the record setting for this film, rebooted the TiVo and went to set it to record again. Unfortunately it still requires the PIN.

My guess is that once the PC attribute is set its not getting overwritten on later PC changes.

Hope this helps - again I ran it past the (excellent) help desk this morning.

We can live with this as it only affects 2/3 films which once watched we probably will not bother with again, but it would have been a bitch if this had been against a season pass.

Thanks for listening.......

We solved the parental control issues by not having children ;)

Now you tell me the bug fix - 14 years too late! :p

This was reported to Tivo during Beta testing but seems to have gone by the wayside. I also advise Gary of the problem for his Bug list but its not been added there either....I don't think many people use it so its not come up as a major issue... Don't trust the Auto lock either as it doesn't...this also was reported previously...

If one of you could succinctly write what the bug is and how to reproduce it I'll add it to my bugs site. Thanks :)

When setting parental control options (content, certificate), some programs when set to record will retain thei parental control information even if the parental control is diabled later.

Example: PC is set on '18' certificate films, an '18' certificate is set to be recorded. When PC is removed the film in question will still need a PIN to be recorded. Reboots do not remove the issue.

As a note another side effect of locking specific channels is the AUX override will require the PC PIN to activate - understandable - but need documenting in the PC section of the guide.
