HELP!
I've followed the Hinsdale method, and was able to copy my Org A drive to a 80GB Maxtor drive. When I try to go back and uses the MAD util, I get an error code 3.

When answering the questions, you select where the drive is. The hdc, hdb, hdd for primary, slave etc. This doesn't match what the linux says the address is.. Mines more like hdh. you cannot pick this, and I cannot expand the drive. I'm using the boot CD. This is a HD112 unit. 14 hour..

Please someone help..

Thanks,
Jim

Explain the config on your pc...hdh sounds like you have an ide card in there along with the main motherboard ide channels. what kind of pc is it, whats in it, etc.

in essence what you want to do is remove all the drives from your machine except for the cd and the tivo disk, and connect those to the primary ide controller on your motherboard. then the cd should be hda and the disk should be hdb.

if you're completely screwed, you arent that far from me, you can express mail me the drive, i can fix it and express mail it back. there are also a boatload of tivo folks in the bay area that may be able to help more directly.

If your drive is coming up as hdh and you can't change that another means would be editing setup.sh to change the occurences of hdc to hdh.

I haven't got it in front of me, but as I recall it shouldn't be too hard. :) Then again I had to edit this post after reading my first attempt at english.... If you need more detailed instructions let me know.

Thanks everyone that gave there time and input.

It turned out that the IDE raid control, which is built into the M/B. Soyo Dragon. Was taking up the first IDE channels. I went into the bios and disabled. I didn't have anything other than the TIVO drive and the CD-Rom hooked up. Guess the Linux just saw the controler. Well It works and I'm happy.

Thanks again.

Jim
