Did you not see the part where talk of stealing service is not allowed?

Storm,
I agree with you in principle but we can't assume he's stealing service. I pay for my TiVo service and DirecTV service but still have it modified not to dial in because I don't want to:
1) upload "anonymized" data.
2) have a phone line connected. I don't want to have to run a cord to my TiVo and I don't want the risk of a phone surge damaging the TiVo since they are nearly impossible to find at a reasonable price now.
A wireless phone jack is explicitly listed as voiding the warranty in the manual. It also doesn't prevent the upload of "anonymized" viewing information.
There are legitimate reasons not to have your TiVo dialing in.
If you are paying for your service I think you are within your rights to modify the software to avoid dialing in. What's the harm?
On that note: I won't be helping anyone set it up since I can't be sure of their intentions.

You can opt-out of the anonymous data collection, you know. I can't really see a valid reason for clearing out your logs.
And the 25xtreme install only uses that ClearLogs.tcl file for hacked subs.

Not to mention that you are opening yourself to possible counter-measures from TiVo/DirecTV, and you won't be getting any sofware updates.

heh... I was one of the alpha/beta testers for joe, I knew the guy who wrote it - Joe. joe == Joe's Own Editor
We were both at WPI at the time.
Sorry, I was just amused by the comment.

I'm not using 25xtreme but my unit is modified not to dial in.
I'm using own method of clearing logs. I can't say what ClearLogs.tcl does because I haven't looked at it. I'm assuming it clears out the /var/log directory. Clearing the logs has nothing to do with "hacked subs." The files in the /var/log directory increase in size every time you change the channel or record something etc. The logs are compressed and select logs are sent to TiVo during the daily call. Since mine isn't dialing in I'd eventually run out of disk space if I didn't clear the logs myself.
I'm aware of the software updates issue. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Right now I'm happy that I've got no phone line connected.

Specifically, the 25xtreme instructions tell you to execute that tcl script (which is just deleting /var/log) inbetween 2 other additions to the TClient-lib.tcl script that are involved in faking a lifetime subscription.

Makes sense...TClient-lib.tcl contains the information for the daily call. Clearing the logs in the daily call area would delete your log files every day when the TiVo makes the call but this has nothing to do with stealing DirecTV or TiVo service.
All I'm saying is there is nothing illegal or immoral about modifying your TiVo so it won't dial in if you are paying for service. In fact, having it not dial in is saving TiVo money.
